Add fallback text to merge fields
The quick answer
Use supported fallback syntax such as {{first_name|there}}. A fallback prevents an empty field from leaving a broken greeting; preview complete and incomplete records to check the finished text.

Create a campaign named Partner briefings. Check the sender and business details, then continue.
Add first-name and company fields with fallback text. Write the message, add a three-day follow-up, and continue to recipients.
Select Maya and Jon, then continue. Review the two recipients and the follow-up timing together.
Run preflight and read each result. This example needs sender setup before it can be launched.
Return to Campaigns to find the saved draft. Complete the flagged checks before approving a live send.
Prepare personalized emails
Prepare a clean source
Use Contacts/Lists, CSV, or a Google Sheets source offered by the recipient import dialog. A Sheets import needs headers, an email column, a valid range, and read-only authorization.
Check the fields
Match the import headers to the fields used in your message. Use a fallback such as {{first_name|there}} or {{company|your team}}.
Preview representative rows
Inspect at least one complete record and one record with missing optional fields. Check subject, body, links, and punctuation.
Review delivery scope
Use a campaign for separate emails with recipient-level tracking. Confirm the final audience and suppression checks before launch.
