Link tracking
Understand tracked redirects, click classification, reports, custom domains, and safe-link limitations.
When link tracking is on, supported web links in the email are replaced with opaque Elite redirect URLs. The redirect records a request, classifies it, and sends the visitor to the registered destination.
Use link tracking
- Add a complete
http://orhttps://link in an HTML email. - Enable link tracking in the compose controls or campaign.
- Send the message.
- Review Dashboard → Link clicks for time, destination, and source message.
Only registered safe destinations can be used. A malformed, unsupported, or altered URL can be rejected instead of creating an open redirect.
What a click means
A click is stronger interaction evidence than an image fetch, but it is still an HTTP request. Email security scanners often visit links before delivery. Elite classifies likely-human clicks separately from scanner/prefetch requests. Likely-human clicks contribute to click rate; automated requests stay in the evidence trail.
If a likely-human click arrives without a previous likely-human pixel, reporting can add an implied open because the recipient necessarily accessed the message to click. It does not invent a pixel request or precise open time before the click.
Branded tracking domains
Pro and Team accounts can add a hostname such as links.example.com under Settings → Tracking. You receive a CNAME and verification TXT record. After DNS and HTTPS checks pass, select the verified domain in a campaign or use it for supported tracking links and pixels.
This setting brands tracking URLs; it does not configure SPF, DKIM, or DMARC for the mailbox. Those records remain with your sending provider and are checked separately in Deliverability.
Limitations
- Plain-text messages cannot contain HTML redirect links.
- Some security products rewrite Elite links again or visit them automatically.
- Copying a tracked URL outside its intended context can generate activity unrelated to the original recipient.
- Destination fragments, unsupported protocols, and invalid URLs may not be tracked.
- Removing or revoking a tracked shared-content link can make it unavailable immediately.
