Document analytics

Elite shares tracked files through expiring, revocable links instead of attaching an analytics script to the file itself. The hosted viewer records viewer sessions, page/slide/sheet/row activity, time, and downloads supported by the delivery route.

Share a tracked document

1. Open Document analytics and select Upload document or Send new document.
2. Choose a PDF, PowerPoint, Excel workbook, or CSV.
3. Create a link or send an individualized tracked link to one or more recipients.
4. Optionally set an expiration, expose the download button, or add a confidential watermark.
5. Review the document detail after a recipient opens the hosted link.

The share link is what carries the tracking context. If a recipient downloads the file and later opens it locally, offline page views cannot be reported.

What the report shows

• document title and source message;
• viewer sessions or unique viewer contexts;
• PDF pages, PowerPoint slides, Excel sheets and visible cell ranges, or CSV row ranges viewed;
• time spent, with the understanding that an idle tab can affect duration;
• downloads and recent activity;
• recipient attribution when the link is recipient-scoped.

Content units represent material rendered through the tracked viewer. A shared link can be revoked, after which future access stops. Existing analytics remain according to retention policy.

“Trackers inside pages” explained

Elite does not place separate invisible web pixels on every static PDF page and then expect them to run in arbitrary PDF readers; most PDF viewers do not execute remote HTML images per page. Instead, the controlled web viewer records which PDF page it renders. This provides page analytics while the document is viewed through the tracked link.

Supported tracked formats

• PDF: page-level reach and dwell time.
• PowerPoint (.ppt and .pptx): slide-level reach and dwell time.
• Excel (.xls and .xlsx): sheet-level reach and dwell time plus visible row and column ranges.
• CSV: visible row-range coverage and dwell time.

Limitations

• Forwarding a share link can mix activity unless access is recipient-authenticated.
• Privacy tools, blockers, offline viewing, and downloads reduce viewer detail.
• Time spent is an estimate, not proof of active attention.
• Excel and CSV viewport ranges are browser-derived estimates and do not prove that every visible cell was read.
• Revocation blocks future access but cannot retract a file already downloaded.
